Important
All trainees are required to attend the practical lessons in appropriate footwear.

Workers who already have the trade skills in performing signalling & rigging but are keen to acquire the WSH skills and knowledge in carrying out signalling & rigging safely in the marine industry.

Course Overview

On completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Respond better to workplace emergencies
- Prepare for safe work activities
- Identify workplace hazards and follow the correct WSH procedures when performing signalling and rigging
- Re-instate work area and lifting equipment after signalling and rigging operations to ensure safe working environment

Course Outline

Respond to workplace emergencies
- Determine type of workplace emergency
- Workplace emergency procedures
- Proper reporting of workplace emergency

Prepare for safe work activities
- Identify relevant duties and responsibilites of each personnel under Workplace Safety and Health
- Types and usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Identify hazards and implement risk controls by conducting routine WSH checks on work area and take appropriate action to ensure safety before work operation
- Identify hazards and implement risk controls by conducting routine pre-operational WSH checks on lifting equipment as well as load and take appropriate actions to prepare for safe operations
- Ascertain load weight and inform crane operator
- Identify hazards relating to preparations for signalling and rigging
- Implement risk controls relating to preparations for signalling and rigging operations
- Proper reporting of any abnormalities and problems to designated personnel

Identify hazards and follow WSH procedures when performing signalling and rigging
- Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Observe WSH requirements when securing/slinging/lifting and lowering loads
- Identify hazards relating to signalling and rigging operations according to organizational risk assessment
- Implement risk controls relating to signalling and rigging operations according to risk assessment, safe work procedures and WSH legislative requirements
- Proper reporting of any abnormalities and problems to designated personnel

Pre-requisites

- Physically fit
- Relevant knowledge of marine industry
- Undergoing or has undergone relevant signalling and rigging training
- Successfully completed and passed Shipyard Safety Instruction Course (SSIC-General Trade)
- Comprehend basic English
